Sewing machine risks: Electrical cables, sharp and fast moving needle, hot bulb, fast moving take up lever, heavy weight.

Sewing machine precautions: Ensure the cable is correctly plugged in, and take care not to trip when moving around the machine. Keep hands free of the needle, and operate the pedal to ensure you sew at a speed which is comfortable and safe for you. Keep hands towards the sewing plate rather than moving up towards the casing, where skin could reach contact with the bulb which will be very hot and could cause burns. Stay sitting up straight rather than leaning towards the machine, to avoid the take up lever striking your head. Take care when lifting the machine by using the handle and bending at the knees and asking for assistance if you feel you are unable to lift it yourself.

Scissors and pins risks: Sharp blade and point.

Scissors and pins precautions: Hold the scissors correctly and keep hands clear of the blades when cutting. Hold scissors by the blade when moving around the room. Keep hands clear when pinning fabric. Do not hold pins in the mouth while working.

Floristry wire and cutters risks: Sharp point and blade

Floristry wire and cutters precautions: Keep fingers and hands clear of the wire ends and cutters when using to avoid piercing the skin.
